The Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Learning System may be used for professional development or for qualifying candidates, as a preparation tool, for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification examinations. The SHRM Learning System has been designed around the six functional areas defined by the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) as:
Individuals should meet the qualifications specified by the HRCI and register for the exams through HRCI. HRCI registration deadlines are listed below. Exams are conducted via computer at specified locations throughout the state. HRCI does have registration deadlines for the exam, one of which is a late penalty final deadline. Be sure to check the HRCI website for those deadlines.
The Personnel Development Services (PDS) unit offers two 10-week courses each year to help prepare local, state and federal human resource professionals for the PHR and SPHR exams. PDS also offers a 2-day “cram” class immediately before the certification exams. The Cram class is an intense 2-day refresher for those who take the 10-day class or prepare through self-study. Participants in the 10-week preparatory class can attend the 2-day Cram class free.
PDS has acquired a statewide license for the SHRM Learning System Kit. Participants may purchase the kit through PDS at a substantially reduced rate. Learning kits will include a set of workbooks, print-based learning materials, and a disk for the PC based pre/post and mastery tests. These kits and training are not available to non-governmental employees.
PDS will place an order for the SHRM Learning System Kits in February and September for those participants who have paid for them. Materials will be available on the first day of class. The kits will be mailed to those persons who order them, but do not register for the preparation course.
