Compensation Management System: The Basics
Aimed at those who advise managers on setting employees' salaries and who are new to Virginia state service or who wish a refresher on Compensation Reform training. This fast-paced, interactive course will review: Virginia's compensation philosophy and broad-banded job and pay structures ; pay practices under Policy 3.05, Compensation ; and the 13 pay factors . Exercises will involve matching pay practices with employment situations, applying the pay factors, and justifying pay decisions. Discussion among participants will be encouraged.
 
The EEO Assessment Tool: Statistical Methodologies
This session will include discussion and demonstration of how the EEO Assessment Tool should be used in conducting reviews of your agency's HR management practices, including compensation programs. These statistical concepts and methodologies commonly used to evaluate whether or not your agency's HR practices reflect fairness and equity. It also may be used effectively to defend against charges of violations of Title VII, ADEA and the Equal Pay Act.
 
Workers' Compensation University: Annual Training & Program Update

This full day course is designed to provide all the basics necessary for an agency to handle their Workers' Compensation claims. The morning will be devoted to a general session for all participants including how to use the workers' compensation handbook, getting through the maze of workers' compensation forms, effective return-to-work programs, the prescription drug program, loss control resources and running your reports through Visual Report Studio (the new G2 WebLink). The afternoon sessions will break into introductory, intermediate and advanced tracks, tailored to the skill and experience level of each group. All attendees will take away the latest version of the Workers' Compensation Handbook. Please register for the appropriate afternoon breakout session for your skill level.

Credit for this course counts toward the HRI and completes required "Intro to Workers' Compensation", "Administering Your Workers' Compensation Benefits", and "Return to Work Disability Management" classes.

  • WC 101 Introductory:
    Claim notification requirements, agency HR and supervisor responsibilities, creating a panel of physicians, and an introduction to the Workers' Compensation Act coverage.
  • WC 102 Intermediate:
    Hands on training for HR representatives responsible for the day-to-day handling of workers' compensation claims. Actual mock cases will be discussed, forms will be completed, and complete case studies will be presented.
  • WC 103 Advanced:
    Case studies explore complex return to work situations, catastrophic claims, statute of limitations and subrogation opportunities.
